CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS
OF INTEREST TO PARTICIPATE IN TMF/EJC DATA JOURNALISM FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME
Is your media house looking for new possibilities that open
up when you combine the traditional ‘nose for news’ and ability to tell a
compelling story, with the sheer scale and range of digital information now
available?
Do you wish to shift the focus of your media house from
being the first with the story to being the first one telling it in the most
meaningful way? Does your media house want to see its journalists use engaging
infographics and other forms of data visualisation to enrich their work?
If your answer to the above questions is yes, this
opportunity is for you.
Tanzania Media Foundation (TMF)
is a new organisation that emerged out of the successful implementation of the
Tanzania Media Fund project from June 2008 until September 2015. In
collaboration with the European Journalism Centre (EJC), an independent, international, nonprofit foundation
dedicated to promoting the highest standards in journalism, TMF will run a
three-month Data Journalism Fellowship Programme to strengthen the capacity of
successful applicants in this exciting way of doing journalism in the digital
era. This opportunity is currently open to just three media houses, each
represented by a team of three trainees (one editor, one graphic designer/page
maker and one journalist).
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA.
The applying media house should:

Express an interest in training its editor,
graphic designer/page maker and one journalist in Data Journalism and an
interest to use/ employ open data when possibble
•
Facilitate their full participation in the
three-month fellowship
•
Have a team of journalists who are conversant
with multimedia tools and be keen to tell stories that otherwise would not be
told/would not be engaging
•
Be passionate about and committed to transform
itself and have an interest to use/employ open data when possible
Successful media houses will be informed by 23rd
May, 2016. Thereafter, the selection of trainees from each successful media
house will involve TMF and EJC’s team of experts and will be finalised by 27th
May, 2016. The three month programme is expected to start on 31st
May, 2016.
HOW TO APPLY:
i)
Interested media houses should send an expression of
interest of not more than two pages responding to all FOUR eligibility criteria
stated above, including at least five CVs of prospective trainees.
ii)
Applications should also include an explanation of why
the media house applying needs the training in data journalism and why it
should be given the opportunity to participate in the fellowship programme.
iii)
All applications should be sent to info@tmf.or.tz copying esungura@tmf.or.tz not later than 20 May, 2016.
